I would have never imagined when cheering on my high school’s football field and then cheering on my university’s football field, that one day I would be cheering for an NFL team. And not just any NFL team, but the legendary Miami Dolphins, with the greatest cheerleaders in the league!
Although nothing will compare to the very first time I set foot on the field, my adrenaline and excitement was still through the roof this time around. Being one of the first ones out of the tunnel to set up for pre-game is so much fun. I love the first glance I get at all the Fins fans in the stands. The ambiance of the stadium is amazing. The smell of the grass, the sun in your eyes, and the roar of 70,000 Dol-Fans is an experience I will never forget.
Not only is it an honor and privilege to be on the field every game, but this Sunday’s game against the Ravens was extra special because it was the Dolphins’ “Crucial Catch” game, in recognition of breast cancer awareness. Sun Life Stadium, the players, the staff, the fans and even our squad were all “pinked out” in honor of breast cancer research. This cause is specifically close to me, as I have spent the last four years in college raising money and awareness for this cause. Breast cancer education and awareness is the official philanthropy of my sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha. I have participated in countless fundraisers and walks supporting this cause. I even ran into some sorority sisters before the game passing out pink ribbons! I was so proud to be out there with pink ribbons on my boots and pink poms in my hands.
Maybe an experience even more incredible than being on the field is being on the field with Grammy Award winning artist, and overall legend, Gloria Gaynor. I felt so blessed to be on the field dancing while she performed “I Will Survive” and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one with chills as her voice echoed through the stadium.
The amount of team spirit from the fans this game was unbelievable. I could definitely feel the will to beat the Ravens from everyone. The Dolphins were amazing, and played hard all the way to the end. Although the outcome wasn’t favorable, I was so proud to be out there cheering on our team next to all my amazing teammates. I can’t wait to cheer the Dolphins on to many more wins in the future, because remember… it’s our time!
